  1. I want to wear my mother's wedding lehnga on my wedding and My grandmother's saree on the sangeet. Some people think that I should wear new clothes? What is the right thing to do?

  2. Hi Sumati. I love the idea of wearing my mothers and grandmothers clothes for the occassions. It does make it very meanigful and personal. I think you should simply go ahead with it if you really want to do it. Even Raveena Tandon wore an outfit for her wedding which was designed out of her mothers wedding saree. All you need to be careful about is that the material may be over twenty years old and you need to consult your designer or tailor whether its still feasible to wear it. All the best.

  3. Hi -- I wish my mom and grandmom had saved their wedding outfits for me. What a wonderful way to add extra tradition to your wedding. And like the western ways of "something old, something new, something BORROWED, something blue!"

You can save the new clothes for your other wedding events -- and for all of your accessories, of course.

That said, I agree with Preeti's advice that you should make sure all of your fabrics are still in good condition. Bring each hand-me-down to your tailor for inspection and any necessary restoration, well in advance of your wedding day.
